Garden Update Monday

Good morning. It's dreary here today and we expecting lots of rain the first part of this week.

On Saturday we worked in the yard again. I pulled almost all the green and ripening tomatoes and then pulled up all the plants. With the exception of the Roma tomatoes. We still haven't had our first frost in the city yet so everything was still doing fine. I just reached my limit.

I also pulled up all the carrots remaining.

Bryan worked on the greenhouse which needed a new cover. I forgot to get pictures of that so it will be in the next update.

The garden and patio look quite a bit different.

9 Months

This little mess turned 9 months last week. Ugh, I can't even.

He's generally a happy baby and we are so enjoying this phase.

While he's not crawling or walking or even talking yet, he's so funny to be around. To watch his smile and to watch him play. He's an active thing for not crawling or walking. When he wakes up, he doesn't make a noise, he kicks. We hear him shaking his crib with his forceful kicking. Lord help us when he can actually move around.

This week we started physical therapy. It is not a pleasant thing to hear something is wrong with your child or that he is delayed. But there are far worse things that could be true, so we're taking it in stride.

He will also be fitted for a helmet soon to correct his flat head. Let's hope he feels this excited when it comes time to wear it.

We are so thankful for our Charlie Bear. Let's hope he's still such a happy camper next month when he's wearing a helmet 23 hours a day.

Monday Garden Update

I wonder how many more of these I will write this year. One? Two?

On Saturday Bryan and I worked in the backyard for about an hour or so. Bryan blew leaves to our compost heap. The yard looks so much better.

While he was busy with that I worked on the garden. I trimmed back the dead foliage from the asparagus bed. Then I took to the tomatoes. I'm pretty much at my limit of patience with them so I pulled up all the cherry tomato plants. A couple weeks ago I trimmed back all the tomato plants so that the green tomatoes would ripen. With the warm weather we've had since there was a ton of new growth and I had to trim them all again.

We are now past our average first frost date so I'm keeping an eye on the weather. Once we have that frost date it's all over. If I'm being honest, I'm kinda ready.

Zoo Boo 2015

This year we were given free tickets to the Zoo Boo held at our Memphis Zoo. We were excited to have something Halloween-y that we could do with Charlie. Although to be honest, he didn't really enjoy it. Well, anymore than he would have any normal stroll through the zoo. He didn't enjoy being in his costume and made his carseat and stroller a little snugger than normal.

Not amused by the singing pumpkins.

Bryan danced around and acted like a bird and finally got this kid to smiling.

One thing he did seem to enjoy was the hay ride! I'm so glad we got him out and did this. It wasn't long and since we were early we didn't have to wait in line. He enjoyed moving, being out of his seat, and seeing things.

I take him to our zoo about once every week or two. He's not at a point where he can enjoy it because most of the animals are out of his range of sight. I'll occassionally get him out of the stroller and try to point something out to him, which sometimes he seems to get, but most of the time, not so much. Its probably just an age related thing. I'll give it another six to nine months.

Bryan and I were super thankful that we got to go and experience it. We are prepared for future years. There are crafts, activities, fun decorations, and trick or treating stations. Charlie was definitely too young to enjoy it this year, but I can see him loving it in the next year or two.

We arrived at the start and were able to skip lines. As we were leaving an hour later we noticed some really long lines for the train and candy stations.

Halloween 2015

Since Charlie is still pretty young he didn't get Halloween this year. He was not amused by his costume. (Although the Halloween hater in me kinda hopes that he inherited it from me.) On the 30th we went to Zoo Boo, which I'll do as a separate post. For Halloween night we went out to Cordova to my parents house to have dinner with the family and give treats out to their trick or treaters.

Bryan did not fit into Charlie's costume.

We had lots of floor play time.  Charlie got to "ride the dog," a plastic play thing that Mom bought for him. He's so close to really being able to play with and enjoy this. Once he's better at standing I think this will be a real hit.

Of course we had to put him in his costume. Just to ooh and ahh at his adorableness.

Charlie makes one adorable pumpkin.
