Spring has arrived

I had a lovely post planned on how I just adore spring with the green leaves and blue sky and warm weather and cool breezes. But certain things have occurred today that just make me want to start drinking early. Its not even lunch time yet!

So here's to stupid people, annoying rules that are not convenient for anyone, and randomly generated pin numbers that are impossible to get! Drinking will commence at 5:01 pm.

One Year

It’s been one year of marriage. It doesn’t seem that monumental. We take it one day at a time… that’s all anyone can do, I suppose.

When Bryan answers people’s questions of how he can do marathons, he simply says, put one foot in front of the other. He honestly believes it’s that simple. To those of us who aren’t runners, it seems way more complicated than that. We went into this marriage believe that there was no back door out. We were in it to win it. So it doesn’t feel special that we’ve made it one whole year. Maybe when we hit fifty, we’ll celebrate then.

The other day I went to buy beer for our friends house sitting while we’re away. I picked up a six-pack for me too. Bryan commented on it later, I said that I couldn’t be trusted. He answered that was what he had learned in the first year, that I couldn’t be trusted. I’ve learned a lot this first year, more about me than about Bryan. Bryan is rock steady and he hasn’t changed since the day I met him. Me, on the other hand, I feel like I’ve changed so much, if only on the inside. Well… and those ten pounds are teensy bit noticeable on the outside too. I’ve learned (learning) patience, how I want to be loved, and new passions. From the fashion conscious girl, I’ve become the budding chef, interior decorator, circus leader, and estate sale hound.

We’ve come a long way in the first year. I moved out of my parent’s house for the first time, we got our own apartment, paid our own bills, got a cat, sold a car, acquired a turtle, bought a house, bought appliances, and got a puppy. It’s amazing what can happen in year. Who knows what will happen within our second year of marriage.

Ghosts

We're staying in an old Brownstone here in Boston. Built sometime in the 1800s... a long time ago. I am now thoroughly convinced there are ghosts in our room.

First, I know I packed a cell phone charger and put it on an outside pocket of my suit case. The zipper is totally gone. Bryan was convinced that there wasn't even a pocket there until he tore the whole suitcase apart and could still feel the cell phone charger inside. Any ideas on how to get into a suitcase without any zippers?

Second, we were both asleep, or at least me trying to sleep, and Bryan nudged my to say the fireplace was on. How quaint... but how did it turn on? So I got up because I couldn't sleep and the idea of sitting in front a fire seemed nice... but after a few minutes... it turned off. And now its making creepy sounds.

Help me! Weird things are happening and soon our cell phones won't work!

UPDATE: Zipper is totally busted, but got the charger out. Apparently fire is the only heat in this room... no ghosts after all.

Bathroom Complete

Well, sort of… We have finished painting the bathroom. It’s done, except that I need to replace the shower curtain. Any ideas of what colors and patterns to choose? It will have to be custom made because of the way the shower is set up, so I can choose any fabric. Which makes the decision that much more difficult. Oh well. I’ve got time. The shower curtain is not at the top of my priorities right now.

Next big purchase is patio furniture to enjoy the spring time weather in the backyard with the puppy.

Completing the bathroom painting is a big step. The only thing left to paint now is the laundry room and we have both decided we could live with the sunshine yellow in there for a while. So this morning I went through the painting supply corner of the guest bedroom to weed out the cans we are finished with. Only a couple left! Maybe the guestroom can actually be a guestroom soon! How novel!

Oh how I love progress!

Things that drive me crazy:

  • Listening to the same radio station all day, every day. Play different shit.
  • When people don't listen to what you say. If I say, I have this, don't ask if I have that, because if I had that I would have said that I did.
  • People who don't keep up with their shit, don't ask me to look it up for you.
  • Sterotypes that are all wrong. And then talking about it in front of someone you know who fits part of it and isn't that way at all.
  • That Friday's always drag by.

Flowers

I love having fresh flowers. They just add something to a room. I always swore when I grew up and had a house of my own that I would have fresh flowers all the time. Well, reality has set in and I don’t have all that disposable income I thought I would have, but I still manage to buy some fresh flowers every once in a while. Usually when we entertain I will buy a $5 boutique from the grocery store.

We had Bryan’s family over for a birthday celebration last week. I bought the $5 boutique. I usually do one large arrangement in the entry room and then take a stem or two and put it in smaller vases in the kitchen and/or the bathroom. Spread the joy, you know. Nothing brightens your morning routine than seeing fresh flowers while you brush your teeth.

On a recent trip to Sam’s they had Easter lilies. Lilies are my favorite flowers. I tell Bryan repeatedly, so as to hint that I would not be mad if he brought some home. And one time he did buy me lilies. It was our wedding day. Unfortunately we got married that day and had to go on a honeymoon, so I didn’t really get to enjoy them. But there is this picture of me sitting on the floor with my wedding dress spread all around me, the flowers beside me, and I’m reading a sweet note that came with the flowers.

So Sam’s had Easter lilies right when you walked in the door. The sign above them said $15 something. I originally thought that was too much, but then there was another display further inside the store and I realized it was 3 for $15 something. Shazam! (That’s my new word.) Sold!

We had 3 lily plants, one large boutique, and two small boutiques scattered around the house. Even I think it’s a bit much, but it made me happy. Bryan came home that evening and loudly pronounced there were too many plants in the house before he could even say hi.

What is it with boys and flowers?
