Progress

We made a lot of progress on the house over the weekend. We got the kitchen finished (well mostly, still need to do a few cabinets and the ceiling) and started on the bathroom. Its nice to look back and see what all we've accomplished and to know that the end is in sight. At least with the painting.

Culinary Explorations

So I know I promised a while back that I was going to do more experimental cooking and I haven't, until yesterday.

One of our favorite dishes to get out is Bibimbap, a Korean dish we get at a local restaurant. We want to love the restaurant, but the service seriously sucks, so we refuse to go back. We have serious cravings for this dish and every once in a while I consider going back. But now I don't have to! I came across a recipe the other day in my daily readings (http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/2009/03/dinner-tonight-korean-bibimbap-recipe.html) and decided to try it. Mainly because my husband loves oriental food and I had promised him something "sexy" after refusing to make dinner the other night.

It was expensive to make this first time since I had to purchase sesame seed oil, rice vinegar, and chili paste along with the rest of the ingredients. But it won't be as bad when we make it in the future. The dish is rice based with meat, veggies, and an egg on top. The beauty of this dish is that there are so many possibilities and you can cater to your likes (or in some people's cases, dislikes). And its probably healthy. A lean meat, veggies, and an egg... that's healthy right? It was also not difficult to make at all. Very easy for beginners like me.

I was very proud of myself for trying a dish that is out of my comfort zone. I promptly called my mother to boast of my success. The husband was very happy and impressed as well. I will be definitely be trying more new and "sexy" dishes in the future.

Life sucks

It sucks to be me right now:

• I've been sick for 3 weeks.
  
• Woke up with another kind of infection... I'll spare you the details.
• The new medication requires me to not drink caffeine. This is bad for a person who has two a day caffeine fix. 
• My husband is working too much
• He's also training for a marathon. This means he wakes up really early everyday. His long runs are on Saturday, which means he's exhausted all weekend. And Friday nights we have to eat pasta and go to bed early.
  
• No internet at the house.
• I still need to paint the kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom. 
• I have no control over the radio at work. It drives me up the wall.
  
• Ugh... no caffeine?!

Dear lord, I've been thinking about oriental rugs. I think I really am turning into my mother!

Valentine's

We celebrated the day of love a day early since the Baddass had to work all day. It was just as well since he had yesterday off and spent the day making a fort in our living room.

We ordered in Chinese, drank Bosco's beer, and watched This Is Spinal Tap in the fort. I got him some stuff for his bar and he gave me (us) a zoo membership. Then I melted some chocolate and we dipped various things in it. It was pretty much the most perfect Valentines.

And then we went to bed early... no really, we went to bed. We both got up at 5 this morning. Bleg...

Joint Checking

We finally got a joint checking account a few months ago. Sharing an account has its benefits, but it also has its downfalls and temptations.

For instance, Valentines day is coming right up and as we were discussing our plans Bryan mentioned he already got me a gift as I probably already knew. I did not. He was surprised at my lack of "watching" our account online. He does that, so I don't bother myself with the stress of watching money leave our account.

But now I'm faced with a great temptation. Do I want to know what he got me? Should I check the account history? Hmmm... He was ready to tell me what he got me last night, so its not like he'd be so upset that I ruined the surprise. But do I want to be surprised?

Bar stools

Last week I got the urge to start painting the kitchen. I had decided to do a darker blue/teal on the lower parts of the wall, under the chair rail. The upper parts, maybe the ceiling, and the laundry room will be a lighter blue. I only did the darker blue and maybe in a month or two I'll get around to painting the rest of it.

Anyways, the new colors do not match the bar stool fabric. So I bought a couple of options. You can help me decide because I'm insanely indecisive at these things.



This next one has the paint swatch for the top color.
